Formerly the Hotpoint Social Club, the land and buildings on the site were acquired by Beech Homes when Hotpoint decided they no longer wished to have a social club in the Llandudno Junction area.
The clubhouse was allowed to function as a going concern by the new owners for several years, still subsidised by the Hotpoint factory and stewarded by Hotpoint employees.
When Beech Homes decided to build on land near the club in Victoria Drive, Landudno Junction, they offered the club and land as part of the negotiation and dealing in order to obtain their planning permission. This was granted and as a result, the club was deeded over to Conwy County Borough Council for the sum of £1.00.
The club was then renamed as The Llandudno Junction Community Club, Directors were appointed, and Conwy Council leased the club to the Directors for a period of 99yrs. Since then, the Directors have made efforts to improve the Clubhouse, the site generally, and the footbal field.
The Hotpoint Club in Llandudno Junction is under threat as Beech Homes prepares to pull the plug after 43 years.
Melanie Lewis, who is spearheading the campaign, met bosses of the Colwyn Bay-based So TeN Y Open ewis said. "We want "It has had fantastic support and is a great place to come to, not only for the adults but also for the children."
Hotpoint club treasurer Dave Jones said the company had put a price tag of £350,000 for the land. But efforts to raise the cash have floundered.
At a meeting at the club, more than 200 residents, club members and politicians came together to voice their support. Dignitaries including Conwy MP Betty Williams, Lord Roger Roberts of Llandudno, Conwy AM Denise Idris Jones and a host of town and county councillors are all backing the cause.
Nobody was available for comment at Beech Homes last night.
